화이트 플래쉬몹 퍼포먼스는 서울에서 곡성까지, 도시와 농촌을 잇는 '이동형 예술행위'이다. 이 프로젝트는 단순히 도착지에서 공연을 펼치는 것이 아니라, 이동하는 과정 자체를 퍼포먼스로 전환시키는 실험적 접근을 기반으로 한다. 대중교통(지하철, 기차, 버스)을 이용한 퍼포먼스 작가들의 여정은, 예술이 삶의 흐름 속으로 스며드는 방식이며, 이동과 만남, 대화와 관찰의 과정이 모두 예술의 일부가 된다.
섬진강 도착 이후에는 지역 환경단체인 '푸른곡성21'과 결합한 ‘섬진강 클린아트 퍼포먼스’와 협업하며, 자연과 예술이 교차하는 공동의 장을 형성한다. 카누와 카약을 타고 강을 따라 이동하며 펼쳐지는 즉흥 라이브페인팅, 설치미술, 즉흥퍼포먼스는 일상적 환경(거리, 대중교통, 강 등) 자체가 무대이자 캔버스가 된다. 예술가들은 몸을 매개로 장소와 상호작용하며, 관객은 단순한 관람자가 아니라 환경과 예술을 잇는 참여자가 된다.
이 프로젝트는 예술이 도시를 넘어 자연으로 이동하고, 예술가가 인간과 비인간(강, 나무, 쓰레기) 모두와 소통하는 존재로 확장될 수 있음을 상징하고 동시에 환경정화라는 구체적 실천을 통해, 예술이 지금 여기에 필요한 윤리적 실천으로 거듭날 수 있음을 보여주고자 한다.
The White Flash Mob Performance is a mobile art project connecting Seoul with rural Gokseong. The journey itself becomes part of the performance, as artists travel via public transport, turning movement, encounters, and observation into art.
At the Seomjin River, the project collaborates with local environmental initiatives in the Seomjin River Clean Art Performance, where improvised painting, installations, and spontaneous performances unfold along the river. Everyday spaces—streets, public transport, the river—become stages and canvases, and audiences actively participate.
The project shows art moving from city to nature, engaging with humans and non-humans alike, while demonstrating that art can embody meaningful ethical action through environmental care.
MESSAGE
“예술은 도착(결과)이 아니라, 여정(과정)이다.”
예술가가 움직이고, 도시를 빠져나와 강을 따라 걸을 때, 우리는 예술의 본질이 ‘머무름’이 아닌 ‘흐름’에 있음을 깨닫는다. 이 퍼포먼스는 단절된 대도시 현대인들의 삶과 자연을 다시 연결하며, 우리 모두가 함께 강의 일부로 살아갈 수 있다는 메시지를 품고 있다.
카누와 카약 위에서 그려지는 색채는 단지 예술적 표현이 아니라, 우리가 살아가는 세계에 대한 애정 어린 응답이다. 그리고 그 응답은 쓰레기를 줍는 손끝, 몸을 실은 카약의 진동, 물살에 따라 흔들리는 그림자들 속에서 드러난다. 예술은 이제 고정된 무대 위가 아니라 강 위, 물가, 이동 중의 열차 등 사람과 자연의 관계를 새롭게 쓰는 언어가 된다.
이 퍼포먼스는 단지 ‘보여주는 예술’이 아니라, 함께 행동하는 예술로서 관객과 예술가, 지역 주민과 자연이 공동 창작자로 만나며, 섬진강은 살아있는 커다란 생명체처럼 노래한다. 그리고 그 노래는 바로, 우리 시대의 예술이 지향해야 할 가장 시적인 비전을 보여준다.

As artists move from the city along the river, we see that art lives in flow, not stillness. This performance reconnects urban lives with nature, showing that we are all part of the river.
Colors painted from canoes and kayaks are more than expression—they are responses to the world, appearing in hands that pick up trash, in kayak vibrations, and in shadows on the water. Art leaves the stage to become a language of human–nature connection.
Here, audience, artists, residents, and nature meet as co-creators, and the Seomjin River sings as one living entity—a poetic vision of what contemporary art can be.
