2025SIEAF 세미나는, 섬진강이라는 하나의 강줄기를 따라 흐르는 자연, 문화, 예술, 지역, 생태, 공동체 정신이 맞닿는 미래적 담론의 장이라 할 수 있다.
섬진강은 4대강 개발에서 제외되어 인위적 간섭이 적고 생태계의 자연성이 비교적 온전히 유지된 ‘강다운 강’이다.
진안의 발원지에서부터 하동의 남해까지, 8개의 지자체를 끼고 흐르며 호남과 영남의 지역을 잇는 물길은 분열을 넘어 연대와 화합의 상징이 될 수 있다.
이번 라운드테이블은 곡성·구례·하동·광양 지자체 간 문화관광벨트 협약(2024년)을 바탕으로, 섬진강 중심의 생태문화관광과 예술적 상상력의 접목 가능성을 모색해 보는 자리가 될 것이다
국내외 예술가, 기획자, 생태학자, 문화관광 전문가들이 한자리에 모여 문화예술이 어떻게 ‘지속가능한 관광’을 설계할 수 있는지를 논의하고, 섬진강이라는 지리적·정신적 축 위에 새로운 로컬-글로컬 문화콘텐츠를 함께 구상하며, 단순한 정책 제안이나 사례 발표를 넘어 강이 품은 생태적 언어와 예술이 지닌 치유의 힘, 그리고 지역이 품은 기억과 정체성을 되살리는 문화예술과 자연환경의 자연스런 융합의 기반을 마련하는 계기를 만들고자 한다.
또한 라운드테이블을 통해 도시와 농촌, 산업과 자연, 예술과 삶을 잇는 섬진강형 관광생태계의 새로운 모델을 제시하고자한다.
The 2025 SIEAF seminar serves as a forward-looking platform exploring the intersections of nature, culture, art, local communities, and ecology along the Seomjin River.
The Seomjin River, spared from the Four Major Rivers Development Project, has retained much of its natural ecosystem, making it a rare “river in its natural state.” Flowing from its source in Jinan to Namhae in Hadong, spanning eight local governments, the river symbolizes unity and connection, bridging the Honam and Yeongnam regions.
This roundtable will build upon the 2024 cultural tourism belt agreement among the local governments of Gokseong, Gurye, Hadong, and Gwangyang. It will explore opportunities to integrate ecological tourism and artistic imagination centered around the Seomjin River. International and domestic artists, planners, ecologists, and cultural tourism experts will discuss how arts and culture can contribute to sustainable tourism, while envisioning new local-global cultural content along this geographic and spiritual axis.
The seminar aims not only to propose policies or share case studies but also to highlight the river’s ecological language, the healing power of art, and the role of local memory and identity. By doing so, it seeks to establish a natural convergence between culture, arts, and the environment.
Ultimately, the roundtable will propose a Seomjin River–based model for connecting urban and rural areas, industry and nature, and art and daily life, fostering a sustainable cultural-tourism ecosystem.
