Chiharu Kano is a Japanese actress and Butoh artist from Kanagawa, Japan. She trained as an actress in high school using the Suzuki Method developed by Tadashi Suzuki. Iori Kinki is a Butoh artist from Asuka, Japan, currently based in Osaka. He explores the fundamental question: “What does it mean for humans to be part of nature?”
After injuring his left leg in 2018, he reconsidered Butoh from its roots and developed experimental practices such as “dance without dancing,” “surrealism of the body,” and “Engi – the origin of relations,” transcending conventional dance and theater.
He studied under Fujieda Mushimaru in 2002 and joined the multidisciplinary collective The Physical Poets. He has performed improvisational solo works on stages worldwide, including the Kyoto International Dance Festival, Korean International Experimental Arts Festival, and Jeju International Dance Festival. His work reflects humanity’s drift from naturalness, offering improvisational bodily poetry to reconnect with humans as part of nature.

Kouhei Wakaba is a pioneering figure in Japanese Butoh. Until 2020, he was a core member of the legendary Butoh company <DAIRAKUDAKAN>, demonstrating profound artistry and innovative performance. In 2021, his choreography Those who ain't damn nobody received the top prize at the SAI Dance Festival and the Jury Award at the Choreographer’s Concert, earning significant recognition both domestically and internationally. The work was subsequently invited to multiple festivals, including the Hong Kong Dance Exchange, Kyoto Arashiyama Arts Festival, All-Japan Dance Competition, and Akita Dance Exhibition.
In 2023, Wakaba formed the project group Wakaba Coffee and presented A Body, featuring Japanese Butoh master Daisuke Yoshimoto. In 2024, he premiered Little Red Riding Hood, and in 2025, he performed Anthropophagy Ball alongside Temmetsu, Kim Ito, and Norihito Ishii, gaining acclaim for its unconventional casting.
He also founded the female-centered Butoh group Wo Z Me, with Kana Kitty as the main cast. The group continues to experiment beyond traditional stages, engaging in club events, street performances, and music videos.

Loïc Gendry is a French music director and musician who studied improvisational jazz at the Eric Satie Conservatory in Paris and participated in various workshops. Since 2011, he has been based in Seoul, South Korea, where he continues to develop his artistic practice. His work spans across film, theater, performance art, and visual exhibitions, where he has provided original scores and live performances. He has appeared in numerous festivals, including live drawing shows and the Jecheon International Music & Film Festival (JIMFF). One of his notable works includes serving as the music director for the documentary "Resonance" by Jean-Julien Pous, which was screened in Italy, Greece, Chile, Turkey, Prague, Toronto, and Seoul, and was officially invited to festivals such as the London International Film Festival and the Jeju French Film Festival.

배규자(Kyuja Bae)는 노르웨이에서 활동하는 한국 출신 무용 예술가이자 안무가, 명상춤 연구가이다. 그녀는 춤과 안무뿐 아니라 연극, 영화, 행위예술 등 다양한 공연예술 분야와 희곡, 시, 동화 등 글쓰기, 설치예술까지 폭넓게 활동하며 독창적인 예술 세계를 구축해왔다.

배규자는 오슬로 국립예술아카데미에서 안무 석사 학위를 받았으며, 노르웨이 연극 아카데미와 한국예술종합학교 등에서 연극, 연기, 무대예술, 창작 작문을 공부했다. 부토 댄스, 접촉즉흥춤, 명상, 요가, 마음챙김, 에너지 치유 등 다양한 영적 수련을 무용과 접목한 연구와 워크숍을 꾸준히 이어오고 있다.
배규자는 PAB(Performance Art Bergen) 회원이며, 유네스코 국제무용위원회(CID), 노르웨이 무용예술가 단체(Norsk Dansekunstnere), PAO(Performance Art Oslo)에서 활동하며 국제적 네트워크를 구축하고 있다.
Kyuja Bae is a Korean-born dancer, choreographer, and meditative dance researcher based in Norway. She works across a wide spectrum of performing arts, including dance, choreography, theater, film, and performance art, as well as writing in playwriting, poetry, and fairy tales, and engaging in installation art, creating a distinctive artistic vision.
Her solo works and collaborative projects with various artists and companies have been presented at venues such as the Munch Museum, Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art, Oslo Black Box Theater, Gdansk Shakespeare Theater, Bergen National Theater, and Corner Theater. She has also performed at a wide range of music, dance, and arts festivals, including the Hwaeom Spiritual Music Ritual Festival, Norway’s Øya Festival, Jeju International Experimental Arts Festival, iDance Japan (Contact Improvisation Festival), and the Nordic Conference for Musicians’ and Performing Artists’ Health and Well-being.
Bae holds a Master’s degree in Choreography from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and studied theater, acting, stage arts, and creative writing at the Norwegian Theatre Academy and Korea National University of Arts. She has long practiced Butoh dance, contact improvisation, meditation, yoga, mindfulness, and energy healing, integrating spiritual practice with her artistic research and workshops.

Aiko Ueno 아이코 우에노는 Ascension Dress ai.u.ra.ra의 디자이너로 모카(木歌, Mocca) 와 협업하여 ‘라이브 어센션 드레스(Ascension Dress)’를 창작하고, 헤어와 메이크업을 포함한 토털 뷰티 스타일링 연출을 진행한다.
Mocca is a shamanic voice artist and singer from Gifu Prefecture, Japan, who has centered her artistic practice around the voice since 2000. From improvisational music to storytelling that conveys peace, her voice resonates in various forms, envisioning a world beyond borders and boundaries.
In 2011, she left urban life and returned to her nature-rich hometown in Gifu to begin immersive artistic activities that breathe with the earth. In 2014, she organized the Ina Fest (Rice Farming Art Festival), merging rice farming experiences with art to practice a life attuned to the rhythms of the earth. Until 2023, she dedicated herself to performances themed around Japanese mythology, integrating mythical imagination with sound.
For her, the voice is the most primal and familiar instrument. Currently, she shares moments of self-healing through her own voice in "Voice and Breath Meditation Gatherings" and continues ritualistic artistic activities dedicated to song and dance.

사토 유키에(Sato Yukie)는 서울을 중심으로 활동하는 일본인 기타리스트이자 실험음악가, 싱어이다. 1995년 일본인만으로 구성된 한국 락 전문 밴드 ‘곱창전골’을 결성하고 1집 앨범 『안녕하시므니까?』를 발표하였다. 그는 한국 락 밴드 시나위, 윤도현 밴드, 황신혜 밴드 등을 일본에 초대하여 공동 콘서트를 주최하고, 한일 인디 락 페스티벌을 기획하며 활발히 활동하였다.

Sato Yukie is a Japanese guitarist, experimental musician, and singer based in Seoul. In 1995, he formed the Korean rock band ‘Gopchang Jeongol,’ composed entirely of Japanese members, and released their first album Annyeong Hashimnikka?. He invited Korean rock bands such as Sinawe, Yoon Do Hyun Band, and Hwang Shin Hye Band to Japan for joint concerts and organized Korea-Japan indie rock festivals.
Since 2003, he has curated and hosted experimental, avant-garde, and improvisational art events under the project ‘Bulgasari,’ creating a platform for international artistic exchange. His experimental music practice is rooted in Japan’s avant-garde and improvisational music traditions, exploring sound beyond conventional forms through improvisation and innovative sonic experiments. Tarek Charfa is an actor of Lebanese and Kazakh descent, who grew up and currently resides in Norway. He balances a career as a public servant in Oslo with his work in film and performance arts.
He studied at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles under Cathy Gianone and Kadina de Ellajalde, and received coaching from David Nutter, known for directing “Game of Thrones” and “The X-Files”.
He has appeared in several short films and portrayed a social worker in the Netflix drama The Girl from Oslo pro.imdb.comm.imdb.com. He also appeared in the music video for the song “Forbidden” by singer Mahur pro.imdb.com. Beyond acting, he has served as an assistant director and producer, and has a background in theater performance.
템메츠 토시 마츠모토는 일본의 부토 아티스트이자 연출가로, 1993년 히지카타 타츠미 추모 아스베스토 스튜디오에서 부토를 시작했다. 1996년에는 ‘붉은 혜성의 집(Sekishoku Suisei Kan)’이라는 부토 그룹을 창단하여 창작, 연출, 출연까지 도맡아 다수의 작품을 선보였으며, 거리 공연 등 실험적 시도도 이어갔다.

2021년에는 일본연출가협회 신인연출가 경연대회에서 우수상을 수상하며 주목을 받았다. 2023년에는 B-kikan의 첫 연극 무대를 성공적으로 완성했고, 2024년부터는 오랫동안 병행해온 도예 작업을 전시 형식으로 발표하며 부토를 시각예술의 장으로 확장하는 실험을 이어가고 있다. 템메츠는 ‘몸’을 매개로 연극, 무용, 조형예술의 경계를 허물며, 부토를 삶의 철학이자 예술 실천의 방식으로 보여주는 아티스트이다.
Temmetsu Toshi Matsumoto is a Japanese Butoh artist and director. He began practicing Butoh in 1993 at the Asbestos Studio in memory of Tatsumi Hijikata. In 1996, he founded the Butoh group Sekishoku Suisei Kan, taking charge of creation, direction, and performance, and also exploring experimental street performances. After the group disbanded, he continued his solo work from 2005, developing a unique aesthetic and theatrical imagination, performing extensively in Japan as well as in Europe, Russia, and Korea. In 2016, he founded the dramatic body unit B-kikan, integrating Butoh methods into theater, and has pioneered new expressive forms as its artistic director.
In 2021, Matsumoto received the Excellence Award at the Japan Directors’ Association New Director Competition. In 2023, he successfully presented B-kikan’s first theatrical stage, and from 2024, he has showcased his long-term ceramic work in exhibitions, experimenting with expanding Butoh into the visual arts. Matsumoto is an artist who transcends the boundaries of theater, dance, and visual art through the medium of the body, practicing Butoh as both a philosophy of life and a form of artistic expression.
Yuka Kojima (2001년생)은 일본 출신의 부토(Butoh) 퍼포머이다.
15세 때부터 부토 예술가 템메츠(Temmetsu)에게 사사받으며 무용을 시작했고, 2020년 본격적으로 활동을 시작하여 20세에 첫 솔로 무용 공연을 개최하였다. 그 이후 Flash가 주관하는 ‘Bkikan’ 무용 프로젝트에 참여했으며, 연극, 뮤직비디오, DJ 이벤트, 라이브 밴드 등 다양한 장르와의 실험적인 세션 퍼포먼스를 이어가고 있다. 또한 대만과 홍콩에서도 해외 공연을 선보이며 활동 영역을 확장해왔다.
이러한 활동들을 통해 Yuka Kojima는 전통적인 부토의 틀을 넘어, 현대적이고 실험적인 신체 표현을 추구하는 예술가로서의 정체성을 확립해가고 있다.
Yuka Kojima (born 2001) is a Butoh performer from Japan.
She began studying Butoh at the age of 15 under the guidance of Temmetsu and launched her professional career in 2020, presenting her first solo performance at the age of 20. Since then, she has participated in the dance project Bkikan organized by Flash and has engaged in experimental performance sessions across diverse genres, including theater, music videos, DJ events, and live bands. She has also expanded her practice internationally with performances in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Through these activities, Yuka Kojima has been establishing herself as an artist who transcends the traditional framework of Butoh, pursuing a modern and experimental form of bodily expression.
