섬진강 플로깅 퍼포먼스 Seomjingang Plogging Performance

섬진강은 오랜 시간 자연과 인간이 공존해온 강이며, 두꺼비와 도깨비 신화가 함께 깃든 곳이다. 이번 퍼포먼스는 전래동요 “두껍아 두껍아, 헌집 줄게 새 집 다오”에서 영감을 받아 강의 정화와 자연 재생을 상징적으로 표현한 예술적 플로깅 프로젝트이다.
‘섬진강 클린 퍼포먼스’는 예술의 힘을 빌려 자연과 다시 관계 맺는 새로운 방식을 제안한다.
이 프로그램은 퍼포먼스와 환경운동의 경계를 허물고, 예술가와 시민이 함께 강을 정화하는 공동 실천의 장이다.
카누와 카약은 단순한 이동 수단이 아니라, 물 위의 무대이며 생태적 메시지를 담은 예술적 도구이다. 참여자들은 곡성 별천지 펜션 맞은편 수변에서 압록유원지 SIEAF 메인무대까지 약 2km의 섬진강 물길을 따라 이동하며 수중/수변쓰레기 수거, 환경 퍼포먼스, 캠페인 퍼포먼스 등을 병행한다.
예술적 형태로 자연을 돌보는 이 퍼포먼스는 곡성의 청년 모험가를 중심으로한 지역민과 아티스트들이 함께 여정을 걸으며, 돌봄과 미학적, 개념적 예술 실험의 장으로서 강과 만나게 된다.
축제의 서막은 강을 돌본 자들의 축복 속에 시작되며, 이는 새로운 시대의 개막의식이자 선언이기도 하다.
1. 정화(청소) – 플로깅을 통해 강을 깨끗하게 하며, 환경 보호의 실천적 메시지를 전달한다.
2. 재생(부활) – 두꺼비의 생명력과 서식지 보호를 통해 자연과의 공존을 상징한다.
3. 연결(흐름) – 카누 퍼포먼스를 통해 강이 바다로 이어지듯, 사람과 자연의 유기적 관계를 표현한다.
4. 새로운 터전(공동체) – 참가자들이 강과 함께 살아가는 새로운 의미를 찾고 다짐하는 의식을 만든다.
The Seomjin River, rich in nature and folklore, becomes a stage for artistic plogging inspired by the traditional song “Dukkeop-a Dukkeop-a.” This project combines river cleanup with creative expression, reconnecting participants with the environment.
Artists and citizens together travel about 2 km along the river, using canoes and kayaks as floating stages to collect trash and perform ecological art. The focus is on participation, making nature both stage and collaborator.
This performance, as an artistic form of caring for nature, invites local residents and artists—centered around young adventurers from Gokseong—to walk along the river, encountering it as a space for care, aesthetic engagement, and conceptual artistic experimentation.
