섬진강국제실험예술제(SIEAF) 발자취
2002년, 예술과 다양성의 거리 ‘홍대 앞’에서 처음 개최된 <한국실험예술제(KEAF)>는 예술 실험을 모토로 하는 파격적이고 강렬한 시도들을 통해 한국실험예술과 홍대앞 문화의 상징적인 한 축을 담당했다. 국적을 불문하고 다양한 예술 장르와 아티스트들을 아우르며 12년간 독보적이고 전위적인 도시예술축제로 자리매김을 해왔던
<한국실험예술제>는 2014년, 전격적으로 그 활동 기반을 제주도로 옮겼다. <제주국제실험예술제(JIEAF)>는 지역, 자연, 생태의 화두를 품고 일상과 자연의 토양 속으로 스며드는 거름처럼 환경친화적인 축제로 거듭나는 계기가 되었다.
한국 최초이자 최장기의 국제적 실험예술축제로 예술과 사회에 날카롭고 굵직한 물음표를 던져온 전방위 실험예술의 발자취는 한 발 더 깊은 곳으로 다가가, 2020년 전남 곡성에 닿았다. 섬진강과 대황강의 품 안에 안긴 곡성은 오랜 농경의 흔적 속에서 지역과 사람과 생태를 체득할 수 있는 새로운 예술적 토양이 되기에 충분했고, 이곳에서 <섬진강국제실험예술제(SIEAF)>의 새로운 실험이 시작되었다.
사람의 온몸을 흐르는 대동맥의 거대한 순환과 같이, 대지를 따라 흐르는 생명의 원천인 ‘강’과 같이, '섬진강국제실험예술제(SIEAF)'는 곡성의 농업과 생태를 기반으로 강이 함축하고 있는 철학적, 생태적, 예술적 의미와 가치를 찾아가는 예술실험을 통해 예술의 시대적 역할에 대한 지속적인 고민과 실천을 하고자 한다.
Seomjingang International Experimental Arts Festival - History
In 2002, the Korea Experimental Arts Festival(KEAF), which was first held in the street of art and diversity, Hongdae Neiborhood in Seoul, drew a symbolic mark presenting funky and intense attempts of experimental arts. Becoming an international festival, it has embraced all kinds of arts and artists from all over the world. This city based festival changed its theme in 2014 by moving its home ground to Jeju island. Jeju International Experimental Arts Festival(JIEAF) turned to eco friendly festival rooting under the natural soil of Jeju with regional, natural, and ecological issues.
This unprecedented and the longest international experimental arts festival in Korea has been questioned sharply to society and arts, and in 2020 has it reached to Gokseong, Jeollanam-do where Seomjingana river and Daehwanggang river mingled with ecologies of human and nature. It is the right place that Seomjingang International Experimental Arts Festival(SIEAF) has begun new adventure.
Like the great circulation of main artery flowing through the human body, the Seomjingang river is lively rolling on the golden land of Gokseong. SIEAF seeks the sustainable practice the art can play based on Gokseong’s agriculture and ecology and values of philosophical, ecological, and artistic in the modern age.
