생명굿 & 제의 - 곡성의 오래된 설화 속 도깨비와 두꺼비를 불러내고, 전통 제의와 현대의 예술, 미디어와 테크놀로지를 한자리에서 만나는 오프닝 무대

생명굿과 제의로 강의 안녕을 기원하고, 창극·무용·국악·클래식·시낭송· 미디어&테크가 어우러져 섬진강별곡을 노래한다.
STEP 3 도깨비와 춤을
함께 빚고, 함께 빌고, 함께 나누는 섬진강 축제의 밤, 도깨비와 함께 신명을 깨우다.
섬진강과 대황강이 합류하는 압록의 지리적 특성을 ‘만남과 상생’의 상징적 서사로 풀어낸 개막 프로그램이다.
곡성에 전승되는 도깨비 설화와 두꺼비의 생태적 이미지를 전통적 제의 형식, 동시대 퍼포먼스, 미디어 기술과 결합하여 지역의 신화적 기억을 오늘의 예술로 불러낸다.
주민들이 십시일반으로 모은 ‘도깨비쌀’은 지역 장인의 손을 거쳐 술과 떡이 되고, 개막 현장에서 예술가·주민·관람객이 함께 나눈다. 쌀을 모으고, 술과 떡을 빚고, 함께 나누는 과정 자체가 하나의 예술적 행위이자 공동체의 의례이다.
전통 생명굿, 장소특정형 공연, 미디어아트와 드론 퍼포먼스가 하나의 서사 안에서 교차하며, 자연과 인간, 지역과 세계를 잇는 SIEAF의 지향성을 압축적으로 드러낸다. 동시에 압록의 야간 풍경과 지역 설화를 동시대 예술로 새롭게 풀어내며 곡성만이 만들 수 있는 축제의 정체성과 가능성을 모색한다.
The opening program unfolds from the unique geography of Aprok, where the Seomjingang and Daehwanggang Rivers converge, transforming this confluence into a symbolic narrative of encounter and coexistence.
Drawing on the Dokkaebi legends passed down through generations in Gokseong and the ecological imagery of the toad, the program brings the region’s mythic memory into the present through a convergence of traditional ritual, contemporary performance, and media technology.
The “Dokkaebi Rice,” gathered little by little through contributions from local residents, is transformed by local artisans into traditional rice wine and rice cakes, then shared among artists, residents, and visitors at the opening. The entire process—gathering the rice, making the wine and rice cakes, and sharing them together—becomes both an artistic act and a communal ritual.
Traditional Saengmyeong-gut (Life Ritual), site-specific performances, media art, and drone performances intersect within a single narrative, embodying SIEAF’s vision of connecting nature and humanity, the local and the global. At the same time, the nocturnal landscape of Aprok and its local legends are reimagined through contemporary art, exploring a distinctive festival identity and new possibilities that can only emerge from Gokseong.
